Why Scheme Access Is a Social Work Issue
India spends over ₹6 lakh crore annually on social sector programs. Yet the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) consistently finds that 20–40% of eligible beneficiaries remain unenrolled. The problem is rarely policy design — it is awareness, documentation, and the last-mile navigator.
At SHRISHRI YOGIRAJ BABA KRIPANATH FOUNDATION, our field workers serve as that navigator. Below is a guide to the schemes our teams actively work with in Madhya Pradesh and India.
1. PM POSHAN (Formerly Mid-Day Meal Scheme)
Who it covers: Children in Classes 1–8 in government and government-aided schools.
What it provides: Free hot cooked meals with minimum nutritional standards — typically 450 kcal and 12g protein for primary classes.
How SHRISHRI YOGIRAJ BABA KRIPANATH FOUNDATION helps: We monitor enrolment in target schools, ensure menus meet nutritional standards, and facilitate grievance redressal when meals are substandard or irregular.
2. MGNREGS / NREGA
Who it covers: Any adult in a rural household willing to do unskilled manual work.
What it provides: Guaranteed 100 days of wage employment per household per year at the statutory minimum wage. Compensation for delays.
How SHRISHRI YOGIRAJ BABA KRIPANATH FOUNDATION helps: We conduct NREGA awareness drives, assist families in registering Job Cards, and document cases of underpayment or irregular work allocation for escalation to the District Programme Coordinator.
3. National Food Security Act (NFSA) / Ration Card
Who it covers: ~75% of rural and ~50% of urban population through Priority Households (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY).
What it provides: Subsidised food grains — 5 kg/person/month for PHH at ₹1–3/kg; 35 kg/family/month for AAY at highly subsidised rates.
How SHRISHRI YOGIRAJ BABA KRIPANATH FOUNDATION helps: We run "Ration Card Camps" helping families apply for, correct, or port their ration cards when they migrate.
4. Ayushman Bharat – PM Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY)
Who it covers: Bottom 40% of Indian families based on SECC data — approximately 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families.
What it provides: ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation at empanelled public and private hospitals.
How SHRISHRI YOGIRAJ BABA KRIPANATH FOUNDATION helps: Our health volunteers verify eligibility, generate Ayushman cards at Common Service Centres (CSCs), and accompany beneficiaries to hospitals when required.
5. PM Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G)
Who it covers: Homeless families and those living in kutcha or dilapidated houses as per SECC data.
What it provides: ₹1.20 lakh (plains) or ₹1.30 lakh (hills/NE) for construction of a pucca house with toilet.
